Adams Stepner Attorney Is Featured Presenter at Kentucky Special Education Seminar
Adams Stepner Attorney and member of the School Law practice group, Claire E. Parsons, was a featured presenter at National Business Institute’s “Kentucky Special Education Law” seminar in Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday, February 2, 2017. She presented two full sections of the seminar entitled “Ensuring Successful Due Process Procedures” and “Protecting the Rights of Children with Special Needs” to an audience composed of school officials, parents, students, and fellow attorneys. In these presentations, Claire offered both a review of the legal requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Kentucky Administrative Regulations and practical wisdom from her experience litigating due process hearings. In addition to discussing the best strategies for responding to a due process complaint and preparing for hearing, Claire also provided analysis for the best ways to manage student record requests to ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, to defend against formal complaints to the Office of Civil Rights for students under Section 504, and to respond to complaints of bullying and harassment.
